SUMMARY:EdgeX Foundry Ideation Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the EdgeX Foundry Ideation Challenge in partnership with Topcoder! We invite all community members to register for the virtual challenge and tell us how you would use EdgeX Foundry to solve a business problem. \nThe EdgeX framework allows IoT devices using different protocols or standards to interoperate by normalizing communication protocols\, making it available on the cloud or at an enterprise level. It also allows developers to perform complex operations\, through the use of sensor fusion using rules engines (such as Edge Analytics). \nWith Edge Computing becoming commonplace\, and with the proliferation of IoT edge devices\, by the end of February 2020\, EdgeX Foundry ™ had surpassed 3 million downloads. EdgeX Foundry ™ is built using several technologies and languages\, with a majority of the services written in Go and C. \nRegistration is open from March 21 to April 15. Submissions are due by April 16 and winners will be announced on April 19. \nIdeation Challenge Rules \nThis challenge will last 14 days after submission is open. For the first 7 days\, members can submit their initial ideas for a Checkpoint review\, that will happen 7 days after submission is open. This is an informal review that will be sent directly to the member. \nBest 5 submissions will win $50 each in the checkpoint. Checkpoint submission will end on April 9\, 2020 12:00 UTC -4. At the end of the 14 days submission period\, we will have the final review. Even if you don’t submit for the checkpoint review\, you can still submit for the final review. \nTo register for the event or to learn more\, click here: https://www.topcoder.com/challenges/30117605 \nThank you to sponsors Dell Technologies and Intel and contributing members HP\, IOTech and WiPro!

SUMMARY:Your Path to Edge Computing with Akraino Edge Stack
DESCRIPTION:LF Edge is launching a new webinar series\, “On the Edge with LF Edge” that will feature project overviews and the opportunity for the community to ask questions. The series kicks off on April 2 with a look at Akraino Edge Stack. \nLaunched in 2018\, and now a Stage 3 (or “Impact” stage) project under the LF Edge umbrella\, Akraino Edge Stack is creating an open source software stack that supports a high-availability cloud stack optimized for edge computing systems and applications. Designed to improve the state of edge cloud infrastructure for enterprise edge\, over-the-top (OTT) edge\, and carrier edge networks\, it offers users new levels of flexibility to scale edge cloud services quickly\, to maximize the applications and functions supported at the edge\, and to help ensure the reliability of systems that must be up at all times.  \nBefore Akraino\, developers had to download multiple open source software packages and integrate/test on deployable hardware\, which prolonged innovation and increased cost. The Akraino technical community is dedicated to changing that and developer a way to solve this integration challenge with Blueprints\, real code that brings everything together so users can download and deploy the edge stack in their own environment to address a specific edge use case. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll learn:  \n\n Introduction to Akraino and it’s R2 blueprints\n How Akraino community is ensuring the quality of the blueprints\n How to engage and contribute to the Akraino Community\n\nRegister for the webinar here: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/4515850788014/WN_Zjdo4-5fTQSIqH7pL8iHrQ \nSpeakers:  \nKandan Kathirvel\, Chair of Akraino’s Technical Steering Committee\, and  Director at AT&T and responsible for AT&T’s Cloud Strategy and Architecture. \nTapio Tallgren\, Chair of Akraino’s Community Sub-Committee\, and Technical Leader at Nokia Mobile Networks.
