SUMMARY:State of the (LF) Edge Summit @ OSS/ELC NA
DESCRIPTION:If you are attending Open Source Summit or Embedded Linux Conference North America\, located in San Diego on August 21-23\, we invite you to a LF Edge Summit before the conference begins! \nOn August 20 from 2-5:30 pm\, we’ll be at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront for a half day event all about IoT Edge Computing. Thought leaders from our 70+ member companies will provide an overview of LF Edge\, share insight into the open source projects that fall within the umbrella and review what our technical roadmaps looks like. There will be an open forum for collaboration and networking opportunities – if you’re interested in edge\, this is the perfect place to learn more and ask questions from the best. \nRegistration for the event is $25. Add it to your conference registration here. See below for the complete agenda. \nLF Edge Summit Agenda:\n+ Kickoff (Arpit Joshipura\, Linux Foundation) \n+ Introduction to LF Edge (Melissa Evers-Hood\, Intel) \n+ Overview of LF Edge Projects \n\nAkraino Edge Stack overview (Tina Tsou\, Arm and Kandan Kathirvel\, AT&T)\nEdgeX Foundry overview (Malini Bhandaru\, VMware)\nProject EVE overview (Roman Shaposhnik\, ZEDEDA)\nGlossary / Landscape overview (Wes Reisz\, Section)\n\n+ Break \n+ Edge Panel: Moderator – Balaji Ethirajulu (Ericsson); Panelists: Tina Tsou (Arm)\, Jasmin Ajanovic (Qualcomm)\, Sandip Kamat (HP) and Mike Capuano (Pluribus Networks) \n\nAbstract: Impact of Edge and IoT in the evolution of 5G & its use cases:  As the industry is transforming to 5G\, new business models and use cases will emerge that we have not even thought about. These use cases will demand low latency\, ultra-reliability\, very high bandwidth and high level of security. Massive number of devices will be connected to the network. 5G will deliver services to all industries. Edge\, Automation\, AI/ML\, and IoT will play a crucial role in the evolution of 5G. The panel will discuss the industry shift in Edge and IoT and how open source will play a role in this evolution.\n\n+ Security at the Edge (Malini Bhandaru\, VMware and Roman Shaposhnik – ZEDEDA) \n+ Deployment / Use Cases Presentations \n\nAkraino Edge Stack\nEdgeX Foundry\nProject EVE\n\n

SUMMARY:Open Source Summit/Embedded Linux Conference North America
DESCRIPTION:LF Edge will be on-site at Open Source Summit and Embedded Linux Conference North America on August 21-23 in Sans Diego. \nOn Wednesday\, August 21 from 4:20-4:55 pm\, Tingyu Zeng\, active member in the security working group for EdgeX Foundry and Senior Principal Software Engineer\, Security Lead for Dell Technologies\, will present “An Agile Approach to Threat Modeling for Securing Open Source Projects.” He will share the experience on security threat modeling and risk assessment during the development of EdgeX Foundry and how to apply them to their next project. Add this to your schedule here. \nThursday\, August 22: \nAt 10:25-10:30 am\, Arpit Joshipura\, General Manager\, Networking\, IoT & Edge Computing for the Linux Foundation\, will give a Keynote Lightning Talk about all things at the edge. Add it to your schedule here. \nAt 3-3:35 pm\, Malini Bhandaru\, EdgeX Foundry community member and Sr. Staff Engineer at VMware\, will present a session titled\, “IoT Action at the Edge – EdgeX Foundry 1.0 Released!” She will provide all of the details and features for the new anchor production ready release like more nimble connectors to ever more things were added\, including support for binary data formats for video and audio input\, microservice infrastructure improvements to auto detect status of prerequisite services for faster initialization\, security improvements\, more automated tests\, better documentation\, delivering production quality and more. Add this to your schedule here. \nFriday\, August 23: \nAt 11:30 am-12:05 pm\, Gavin Lu\, EdgeX Foundry community member and R&D Director for VMware\, will share insight in a session titled\, “Open and Neutral Edge Computing Architecture on Heterogeneous Devices.“With open source software and open standard APIs\, it is possible to build and maintain an open and neutral architecture on heterogeneous edge devices. Similar to IT infrastructure in data centers and clouds\, edge device architecture could be put into infrastructure\, app framework\, software service layers\, bottom up. Virtualization\, Linux\, containers\, EdgeX Foundry\, marketplaces\, all are leveraged to build this layered open and neutral architecture for extensible edge computing. A set of OSS projects are built as the reference implementation. Add this to your schedule here. \nAt 3:15-3:50 pm\, Yachen Wang\, LF Edge Governing Board member and Head of Wireless & IoT Networking at Tencent\, will give a presentation titled\, “LF Edge: Edge Open Source to Enable 5G\, IoT & AI Development.” In this presentation\, attendees will receive an overview of LF including background on its projects\, information on how the project aims to establish an open\, interoperable framework for edge computing that is independent of hardware\, silicon\, cloud\, or operating system and upcoming projects from LF Edge. Add this to your schedule here. \n
