SUMMARY:Open Source Summit North America (Virtual Event)
DESCRIPTION:Open Source Summit North America\, which takes place on June 29-July 2\, will take place as a virtual event for the first time ever this year. OSS NA is the leading conference for developers\, architects\, and other technologists – as well as open source community and industry leaders – to collaborate\, share information\, learn about the latest technologies and gain a competitive advantage by using innovative open solutions. \nLF Edge and projects will be featured in several sessions including: \nMonday\, June 29: \n2:35 – 3:25 pm: Uniting the Edge for Tomorrow’s Demands – Arpit Joshipura\, General Manager of Networking\, IoT and Edge for the Linux Foundation \nThe Linux Foundation’s LF Edge is part of this solution. It is an umbrella organization to establish an open\, interoperable framework for edge computing independent of hardware\, silicon\, cloud\, or operating system\, will help ensure greater harmonization to accelerate deployment and bridge the gaps in the open source technologies to support the emerging Edge use cases. \nThe Edge use cases from Industrial\, Enterprise and Consumer spanning multiple edges and domains are being addressed by the LF Edge Projects including Akraino Edge Stack\, Baetyl\, EdgeX Foundry\, Fledge\, Home Edge\, Open Glossary of Edge Computing and Project EVE. The projects within LF Edge are focused to address specific needs of the industry and complement each other to support a cohesive solution. Add this to your schedule: https://sched.co/c3VD \nTuesday\, June 30:\n2:35 – 3:25 pm: Enterprise Edge Computing with Project EVE – Jason Shepherd\, Vice President of Ecosystem\, ZEDEDA \nThis talk approaches enterprise edge computing and discusses the definition\, the challenges and a solution with LF Edge’s Project Eve. The enterprise edge is different from traditional data center environments:\n– Physical distribution and resulting physical and network security\n– Service lifetime of 7 or more years\n– Security requirements for cyber-physical systems\nYet system designers want to follow cloud native and devops approaches for deploying apps at the edge. \nThis is why we created the Edge Virtualization Engine\, or Project EVE. This talk covers:\n– Requirements of the enterprise edge environment\n– Overview of Project EVE\n– Zero Trust\n– Zero Touch for the enterprise edge\n– Providing freedom of any app\, any network (technology)\, and any hardware.\n– A brief demo \nAdd this to your schedule: https://sched.co/c3Wc \nTo learn more about the conference or to register\, visit: https://events.linuxfoundation.org/open-source-summit-north-america/

SUMMARY:(Webinar) Demystifying the Edge with the new LF Edge Taxonomy and Framework
DESCRIPTION:Edge computing represents a new paradigm in which compute and storage are located at the edge of the network\, as close as both necessary and feasible to the location where data is generated and consumed\, and where actions are taken in the physical world. The optimal location of these compute resources is determined by balancing the benefits of centralization and decentralization. \nFounded in 2019\, LF Edge’s mission is to establish an open\, interoperable framework for edge computing independent of hardware\, silicon\, cloud or operating system. With more than 75 members\, LF Edge hosts eight projects building foundational enablers for edge computing in addition to providing research on this emerging market: Akraino Edge Stack\, Baetyl\, EdgeX Foundry\, Fledge\, Home Edge\, Open Horizon\, Project EVE and State of the Edge. \nJoin us for this webinar that provides an overview of the LF Edge organization and the new LF Edge taxonomy that is detailed in a white paper that will be released later this month. The community’s goal in creating this taxonomy is to clear up market confusion by breaking the continuum down based on inherent technical and logistical tradeoffs rather than using ambiguous terms. The taxonomy also comprehends a balance of interests spanning the cloud\, telco\, IT\, OT\, IoT\, mobile and consumer markets. \nTo register for the webinar\, click here: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_icv5h6wFTcuw9O0xvMpgLw \nAttendees will learn:\n1. Key concepts of edge computing within the context of the LF Edge taxonomy\n2. Use cases in telecom\, industrial\, enterprise and consumer markets\n3. An overview of how LF Edge projects work together\n4. How to get involved in LF Edge or any of the edge projects
