LF Edge’s EdgeX Foundry project will be featured at the RedisConf2020 Takaway event, which takes place virtually on May 12-13. On-demand training and sessions will enable you to learn at your convenience, while live interaction with speakers and other virtual attendees will give you an opportunity to ask questions and connect with Redis users worldwide. On May 12, EdgeX Foundry leaders Malini Bhandaru, Co-Chair of the Security Working Group, and Anthony Bonafide, a Member of the Technical Steering Committee, will present
Charging Towards the Smart Grid via EdgeX & Redis, Malini Bhandaru, VMware Open Source Technology Center
The (electric) grid, composed of substations, transmission lines, transformers, and more, delivers electricity from power plants to homes and businesses. Its transformation to a Smart Grid requires both real time sensing of energy production and consumption to anticipate needs and the ability to control, to smooth load peaks. Smoothing may involve curtailing use and/or bringing online cleaner renewable distributed energy sources. In this talk we explore how the open source project EdgeX Foundry with Redis for data persistence can be leveraged to deliver a secure, extensible, IoT/Edge solution to meet the needs of the smart grid while handling data locally to preserve data and also reducing network bandwidth needs. We will share details of VMware’s micro-grid proof-of-concept that covers electric vehicle charging.
RedisEdgeX, Anthony Bonafide, Dell Technologies
This talk will discuss how EdgeX Foundry—a leading open source IoT management and orchestration platform—replaced their default persistence layer with Redis. EdgeX Foundry has also integrated with Redis Streams for pub/sub functionality. We will show how Redis was integrated with EdgeX in these two areas and compare performance and footprint stats with the previous default providers Mongo and ZeroMQ.
