LF Edge’s OpenBao Project Participates in OpenUK’s State of Open Con to Further Open Source Encryption Management

London, UK – State of Open Con 2025  – Feb. 3, 2025 LF Edge, an umbrella organization within the Linux Foundation that’s created an open, interoperable framework for edge computing independent of hardware, silicon, cloud, or operating system, announced its OpenBao Project  is participating  in OpenUK’s State of Open Con on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 and Wednesday, February 5, 2025 in London, UK. As part of the event, OpenBao will be sponsoring two prizes at the conference’s prize draw.

OpenBao is an open source, identity-based secrets and encryption management system under the Linux Foundation’s LF Edge project umbrella. It exists to maintain and improve a robust software solution to manage, store, and distribute sensitive data including secrets, certificates, and cryptographic keys. The OpenBao community provides this software under an OSI-approved open-source license, led by a community run under open governance principles, ensuring transparency, security, and vendor neutrality.

OpenBao recently released the v2.1.1 security update to the v2.1.x series, furthering the project’s commitment to secure and reliable secrets management. This release series features support for the PostgreSQL storage backend and transactional storage across all supported storage engines. More detailed information can be found in the release notes: https://openbao.org/docs/release-notes/2-1-0/.

The project has seen continued growth and engagement within its community. OpenBao recently participated in the FOSDEM 2025 conference in Brussels, Belgium where Technical Steering Committee Chair Alexander Scheel spoke. Several maintainers and community members were in attendance.

LF Edge and OpenBao extend gratitude to OpenUK for sponsoring its attendance at State of Open Con 2025 and look forward to connecting with the open source community to discuss the future of secrets management.
